Boycotting American Quilter’s Society

I’m choosing not to send my quilt, Light Coming Home, to AQS’ quilt show in Paducah, Kentucky in April. I got the acceptance letter on Tuesday. I had entered the quilt in the contest last November long before this happened:

I don’t want to associate with an organization that censors women’s voices; therefore I won’t have my quilt exhibited at any AQS event.

The Studio Arts Quilt Associates released this statement and decided to pull the exhibit entirely from AQS exhibits this year:

Ha! AQS declined a quilt of mine several years ago; it was in support of condom use. I thought at the time that it was odd, since they obviously accept everything submitted, but it was right after the stupid uproar over someone saying “OMG there’s a penis in that quilt” about something that only she saw. Anyway, I’m with you on this. Censorship is obscene.
