Sentimental Soup

I made this quilt in 2014, using scraps from previous quilts. They were mostly traditional quilts, and I wanted this quilt to reflect a transition into modern quilting while paying homage to the past.  I even quilted it free motion on my machine — a relatively new approach for me.

The location is the City Market in Petersburg, Virginia. The building is unique because it is octagonal.

St. John’s Church in Richmond, Virginia, is the burial site of Elizabeth Arnold Poe, mother of Edgar Allan Poe. She died in 1811 when he was two.

St. John’s is most famous for the speech of Patrick Henry on March 23, 1775.
